What is the Difference Between CoveredCA and Private Health Insurance?
CoveredCA is state sponsored health coverage through the Affordable Care Act (often referred to as Obama Care). Depending on your income and family size, you may qualify for subsidies through the federal government to help pay your monthly premiums. In addition, CoveredCA cannot deny you health coverage due to preexisting conditions. CoveredCA offers insurance though many companies such as Kaiser or Blue Shield.
Private health insurance is health insurance directly with a insurance provider such as Anthem or Health.net. The premiums are not subsidized and they may look at your health to determine how much you will pay.
